lecture
and panel discussion titled
CERAMICS
& THE 3D PRINTING REVOLUTION IN S.A.

Where:
LG101, FADA building, University of Johannesburg.
This
seminar consists of a presentation by Wendy Gers and an informal panel
discussion between Dr Michaella Janse van Vuuren and Wendy Gers. The lecture and
panel discussion focus on current international trends in 3D printed ceramics
and the radical potential of this technology for South African ceramic artists
and designers. Michaella Janse van Vuuren will discuss her oeuvre and
introduce the Agents of the 3D Revolution project, conference and exhibition.
Gers will focus on 3D printed ceramics as well as other digital tools (such as
the 3D wheel), and investigate some of the theoretical issues facing the sector,
including copyright and the digital divide.
Wendy
Gers is
a ceramics researcher and curator, Research Associate in the Research Centre,
Visual Identities in Art and Design, University of Johannesburg & lecturer
at the Ecole Supérieure d’Art et de Design de Valenciennes, France.
Michaella
Janse van Vuuren is
an engineer and artist who uses 3D printing. She is founder of the Agents of the
3D Revolution project.
