the Dinner for 101 place setting exhibition in Lady Anne Barnard Banqueting
Hall
11h00 to 11h30 Judy Bryant will present an illustrated
talk on her visit to Helsinki when that city was World Design
capital. She will discuss Finnish design with emphasis on ceramics and her
visit to the Arabia ceramic factory.
Esther Esmyol is the curator of the Iziko Social History
Collection which includes ceramics She has extensive knowledge of South African
ceramics and was instrumental in establishing the Granary Gallery ‘s FIRED
installation at the Castle and initiated the 101 place settings exhibition in
2012
Judy Bryant is a
public relations and media services provider, with a strong interest in design
and heritage. She visited Helsinki in September 2012, during its
International Design Week. The presentation gives a brief overview of Finland
and its design movement; explanation of how Helsinki rolled out WDC2012, with
examples of diverse projects, what potential WDC2014 holds for SA and
information and images of a visit to the Arabia ceramics factory, and the latest
ceramic home-ware range just launched by iittala, in collaboration with six of
Finland’s leading designers.
